Philippe Richard has been Director of the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS since 2016. He is responsible for the strategic, specialist and operational management of the institute as well as representing it vis-à-vis authorities, partners and international bodies.

In 1996, he received his doctorate in physics (Dr. ès sc.) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) and also holds an EMBA in Management and Corporate Finance. Philippe Richard has many years of experience in management positions at METAS, including as Deputy Director and Vice-Director. He is a member of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM), where he has been Vice-President since 2023.
