Strategic objectives of METAS

The strategic objectives of the Federal Council set the direction for METAS. They define the priorities for each 4-year period and put our legal mandate in concrete terms.

Strategic objectives of METAS for the period from 2025 to 2028

In the strategic objectives for METAS for the years 2025 to 2028, the Federal Council defines the following priorities. METAS:

• overcomes the challenges of a national metrology institute and finances at least half of its expenses itself
• creates the conditions required for accurate measurements within the business, research and administration sectors in Switzerland
• carries out safety-relevant and legally compliant measurements to protect people and the environment and to ensure compliance with federal tasks
• supports innovation and competitiveness through expertise and application-oriented research projects in collaboration with industrial partners
• continues to drive forward the digitisation of metrological services
• is committed to training apprentices and encourages the relevant decision-makers to increase the proportion of women in technical and scientific fields
