Mobile communications

Mobile communications generate radiation. METAS defines the measurement methods used to measure this radiation and supports the accredited measurement laboratories by calibrating their measuring instruments.

Mobile radio radiation in everyday life

With the rapid development of mobile communications, including through technologies such as 5G, the presence of electromagnetic fields in everyday life has increased sharply. This radiation must not endanger human health or the environment or interfere with the functioning of technical systems.

Definition of measurement methods

METAS defines the measurement methods to be able to reliably measure radiation in accordance with the requirements of the Ordinance on the Protection against Non-Ionising Radiation (NIRO, SR814.710).

Calibrations

We calibrate radiation measuring equipment and measuring equipment for determining electromagnetic fields:

  • Antennas
  • Field probes
  • Test receivers

Measurement comparisons

METAS carries out measurement comparisons and studies in order to implement the developed measurement methods.
