Temperature measurements are used almost everywhere in everyday life as well as in research and industry. At METAS, we ensure the traceability of thermal measurands to the International System of Units (SI).

Temperature is the most frequently measured measurand in everyday life as well as in industry and research. Temperature measurements are indispensable in areas such as medicine, the food industry, the electronics industry and meteorology. Temperature is used in all areas as a key measurand for monitoring, controlling, optimising and observing processes and phenomena.

At METAS, we ensure the traceability of thermal measurands to the International System of Units (SI) and make them available to business, research and administration as well as to verification offices and verification laboratories.

In the field of temperature, we offer the following calibration services:

  • Calibration of resistance thermometers at fixed points (-189°C to 660°C)
  • Calibration of resistance thermometers and thermocouples (-196°C to 660°C)
  • Calibration of temperature measuring instruments with displays using the comparative method (-196°C / -90°C to 660°C)
  • Calibration of block calibrators (-100°C to 660°C)

Measuring methods and technologies

To ensure traceability to the SI, we implement the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90). This is done in the temperature range of -189°C to 660°C using temperature fixed points (melting, solidification and triple points) of high-purity substances. These serve as a reference for the calibration of thermometers and enable reproducible, stable and thus internationally comparable temperature measurements.
