Conformity assessments of measuring instruments by the Certification Body METAS-Cert ensure that your measuring instruments are put on the market in compliance with the law and that they are internationally recognised. In Switzerland and the EU, they are a prerequisite for market access for many measuring instruments.

• What is a conformity assessment for measuring instruments?

  A conformity assessment is the legally required proof that a measuring instrument, a product or a system meets the applicable national and international requirements. In metrology, the conformity assessment procedure is a key tool for ensuring the quality, reliability and comparability of measurements.

  For most measuring instruments in areas such as trade, transport, public safety, health and environmental protection, it is a prerequisite for puting them on the market in Switzerland and the EU.

  There are two ways of lawfully putting a measuring instrument on the market: Conformity assessment or national approval and initial verification. The procedure used for placing your measuring instrument on the market is governed by the measuring instrument-specific ordinances.
