Legally regulated measuring instruments are subject to strict requirements to ensure reliable results.

METAS-Cert is the METAS Certification Body recognised by Switzerland, the EU and the UK. We test, certify and inspect measuring instruments and intelligent measuring systems in accordance with legal requirements, standards and customer requirements.

The sale of pre-packaged and unpackaged goods must always be based on the net quantity. This regulation of the declaration of quantities by the Quantity Indication Ordinance protects consumers and ensures fair trade.

The verification and periodic reverification of measuring instruments are prescribed by law. They are carried out by the cantonal verification offices as well as by the authorised or internal verification laboratories. The user is responsible for ensuring that the measuring instruments used comply with the legal requirements and that their measurement stability is ensured.

Due to the steady growth of electromobility, the regulation of charging stations for electric vehicles under metrology legislation is becoming increasingly relevant. In Switzerland, METAS is responsible for this.
