Optics, photonics and radiation

Photonics encompasses the generation, transmission and measurement of light. METAS ensures national metrological traceability for optical power, wavelength and other quantities of fibre optic technology and offers calibrations and artefacts.

Mobile communications generate radiation. METAS defines the measurement methods used to measure this radiation and supports the accredited measurement laboratories by calibrating their measuring instruments.

METAS guarantees the metrological traceability of measurements of ionising radiation and thus creates an important basis for their safe and reliable use in medicine, research and radiation protection.
