Dimensional metrology

Realization of the metre

The metre is defined by the distance travelled by light in vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second. The unit of length is thus directly linked to the speed of light and the definition of the second.

Length and Form Measurement

At METAS, we offer a comprehensive calibration portfolio for length and form measurements, based on measurement systems developed or modified in-house.

Surface measurement

The characteristics of a surface are among the key properties of mechanically manufactured components. They determine not only their appearance, but also functional properties such as friction, wear behaviour and smooth running.

Angle measurement

Accurate angle measurements are fundamental to applications in industry, research, safety and trade. METAS supports industry, laboratories and public authorities by providing calibration services for angle standards and angle measuring instruments.

2D and 3D measuring technology

Accurate two- and three-dimensional measurement techniques enable the reliable verification of regular geometries and freeform surfaces. METAS supports this field with measurement systems that have been developed in-house and are unique worldwide.
